Community members gathered on Tuesday evening to observe the anniversary of the Sonoma Complex Fires. At the end of the service, organizers rang a bell 44 times in memory of those who lost their lives in the fires. Two years ago today, the Tubbs fire swept through Santa Rosa and destroyed more than 5,000 homes overnight. One year and one month later, the Camp Fire leveled an entire town, surpassing the Tubbs as the most destructive wildfire in California history. The City of Santa Rosa unveiled a new emergency planning toolkit during Tuesday’s city council meeting. The star of the new program is a European style siren that will be attached to all city police cars and sounded during an emergency evacuation. Community members gathered on Tuesday evening to observe the anniversary of the Sonoma Complex Fires. At the end of the service, organizers rang a bell 44 times in memory of those who lost their lives in the fires. KRCB’s Steve Mencher talked with assembly-member Jim Wood and former Santa Rosa Mayor Chris Coursey about how our community is healing.
